Quickly And Easilly Take Your App to the Desktop With Prism
October 29th, 2007Mozilla has just released a prototype application called Prism. It streamlines the creation of a Webrunner app through a simple wizard. Great for getting your feet wet with Webrunner development or exploring the concept of offline use. You’ll still need to write a custom webapp to deploy however.
Prism is currently Windows only, but a mac version seems to be in the works.

Hey Don, thanks for posting this. I downloaded and gave it a shot. This looks interesting, especially for those of us who developing web applications. For our uses that our less familiar with the web this might give them “one click” access to the app, rather than having to open their browser, set the bookmark and remember where the bookmark is.

Thanks for the comment.
I really think projects like this are the future. Especially in corporate environments. It just makes sense to include pre-packaged desktop apps in corporate installation images. It also could really streamline kiosk deployments.

On another note I just found this post from lifehacker which talks about using prism to have a better “desktop” version of google talk. Right now the web version of google talk is far superior to their desktop client (e.g. allowing things like group chat).

Thanks Chris, that’s a Great Link, A lot of the google apps, are prime candidates for this simply on a productivity perspective. It also makes sense for ZOHO & http://us.ajax13.com products as well as the admin backends to personal sites. (I’ve made one for the admin section of AjaxBestiary).
